Hand Crafted, Goat’s Milk Skin Care Products
Where it all Began…
In 2014 I was living in the Welsh Valleys when a medical consultant advised me to start drinking plenty of goat’s milk to build my calcium levels. Carrying out my own research I realised the many benefits that goat’s milk offers to our health. My interest grew and I started to visit many agricultural shows, talking with goat keepers and I fell in love with the Anglo Nubian Goat breed. I purchased my first two females and it wasn't long before breeding started and more goats were purchased, building the herd to 24. I was milking twice daily by hand, keeping the interaction with the goat and getting more involved and interested in the benefits of goat’s milk to human health.
The Benefits of Goat’s Milk to Skin…
Research shows that goat’s milk is beneficial when used in skin care products. Sometimes it is the key ingredient that helps manage and improves severe and long-term skin conditions. Among other elements such as essential fatty acids and triglycerides, goat’s milk is particularly high in vitamin A, which is very important for healthy skin. It helps to break down dead skin cells and stimulates healthy cell production, helping those with Eczema, Psoriasis and unexplained skin complaints, particularly very dry and sensitive skin. It has also been found beneficial for children with chicken pox as it helps to alleviate and prevent scratching.
Making Unique Goat’s Milk Skin Care: My Recipe…
As my passion for the health benefits of goat’s milk grew, I attended a soap school in the Cotswolds to gain an understanding of the process of soap making. Having obtained this knowledge, I spent many months on developing my own and unique recipe using goat’s milk together with natural oils, such as coconut, pomace and sunflower oil. All my products carry a safety assessment report under strict EU regulations and I am accredited to the guild of soap craft and toiletry makers.
My enthusiasm and business grew in South Wales with over 40 stockists. I also started exporting to a Slovenian baby eco skin care distributor and supplying Buttercups in Kent, the only registered goat sanctuary in the UK with Ann Widdecombe as patron. In 2016 together with my goats and soap-making, I appeared on the ITV News. In 2017 I received an invitation from the Royal Welsh Showground organisers to demonstrate the benefits of goat’s milk in the dairy shed. That same year the BBC television filmed me milking my goats and making soap in my workshop and featured the report on the Cbeebies programme ‘Down on the Farm’. In 2018 I received further invitations from the BBC to talk about my craft. I was interviewed on BBC Wales radio programme ‘Business of the Week’ and also by John Davrill on Radio Bristol.
After very positive feedback form my customers and seeing my products really help people, amongst them family members and my little niece who has very sensitive skin and eczema outbreaks, I decided to concentrate my time and efforts on growing the production and diversifying my goat’s milk skin care range, all in accordance with my unique recipe. My line of products that begun with hand crafted goat’s milk soap now includes goat’s skin milk cream, lotion and shampoo bars.
In 2019 I returned to my home county of Somerset where I source goat’s milk locally to provide for ever growing demand and strive to keep developing and improving my products with new research. I continue to visit and take part in trade shows, interest groups, and give presentations of my goat keeping experience and explain how I make my goat’s milk skin care products as well as their benefits.
I am committed to looking after our planet and sustainable skin care production. I feel very strongly against using plastic and now only use paper packaging and labelling. My skin cream is supplied in aluminium pots and customer purchases are offered a paper bag to carry their goods away. Trying to avoid plastic in my skin care range, the goat’s milk shampoo is also in bar form and so requires no plastic bottles for packaging.
"I bought this cream for my son, who was experiencing skin difficulties due to gradually becoming a teenager. It’s been a miracle and beat all the other products we’d bought easily. Gentle and kind to bothersome skin."
